The problem

Task tools fail in two directions. Most do too little to be worth opening — a list you could keep in a note — or too much to be worth learning, asking for a project methodology, sprint structure and workspace setup before you can write down one thing you need to do.

The useful middle is a tool that holds a list, tracks state honestly, and gets out of the way.

My role

Built the React and DaisyUI front end: task creation, state transitions, filtering and the persistence layer against the API.

Approach

State changes are optimistic. A task marked done moves immediately and reconciles with the server afterwards, because waiting on a round trip to tick a checkbox makes an application feel broken even when the request is fast. The rollback path matters more than the happy one — if the write fails the task returns to its previous state with the failure surfaced, rather than silently pretending it saved.

DaisyUI over hand-rolled components, since this is a CRUD interface where the value is in the interaction model rather than in bespoke visual design, and time spent restyling buttons is time not spent on the state handling.

Outcome

Shipped as a working task manager with create, organise and completion tracking.
